The problem
The water meters were only five years old and in good condition, but they were installed inside each apartment unit in difficult to access locations. The M-Bus wireless module still required someone to visit the complex once a month and hopefully download meter reads from the module. The system had never properly worked, and the wireless module batteries had died, rendering the whole system inoperable.
What we did
Because the water meters themselves were in good condition and did not need replacing, Smart Metering simply replaced the wireless M-Bus modules with the latest LoRaWAN modules, reducing installation costs to a minimum, and installed a LoRaWAN gateway in the complex to record daily meter reads from all the building's water meters.
